About the Magazine
KMH is an independent quarterly magazine devoted to residential interior design. We publish long-form essays on the rooms, materials, and craftsmanship that hold up across decades, not seasons.
The editorial position begins with restraint. Every essay starts with listening. We measure first. We hold off on declaring a trend until we understand how a room is used at seven in the morning and at nine at night, in winter light and in summer light, alone and full of people.
From that foundation we develop a story for the issue: a palette of ideas built around a single dominant theme, a millwork vocabulary that bridges traditional architectural heritage with contemporary spatial thinking, and a portfolio that combines bespoke commissions, vintage pieces, and the small number of contemporary works that earn their place.
Each issue carries long-form writing across the kitchen, the library, the primary bath, and the rooms in between, plus reported essays on space planning, custom millwork and built-in cabinetry, lighting design, custom furniture commissioning, and material specification.
The magazine is published quarterly. Online essays appear several times each season between issues; the print companion lands at the start of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
For pitches, contributions, and editorial inquiries, please use the contact form linked from each issue. Our editorial calendar typically books two to three issues in advance. A short note describing the proposed essay, its primary subject, and any reference imagery is the most useful first contact.
For ongoing notes between issues, the magazine homepage is updated several times each season with essays on materials, kitchen and bath specification, custom millwork, and the broader culture of residential design.
